Having Sunshine in the Rain

“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.”Psalms 107:29
It is still raining but the sun is shining Within the cavern of my soul For where Jesus is, there is joyfulness Whether or not the billows roll
The storm has raged for quite some time The clouds were dark and gray But even with the clouds and rain I see a bright sunny ray
How can there be peace and joy With so much troubles near? Well, it’s simple, friend, I have The Light of the World to lift the drear
He controls the ways of nature He conducts it’s symphony He knows just what is going on He knows what’s best for me
He rules with power and such love Listening ever to my prayers And while its storming all about I find the promise that He cares
He cares enough to calm my heart And tell me to be still He loves me enough to help me on And guide me in His Will
He may not stop the storm for me It may be long and hard There may be pain and sorrow involved Mistakes may leave me scarred
Abut when I lean more clos…

In the Secret Place of the Most High

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2.
When the storms of life are raging And I’m resting in Your grace May I feel Your presence near me May I find shelter in Your Secret Place
Under the Shadow of Your wing Close to Your side I’ll stay No matter how bad the storm may be I know I’m safe with You this way
I will let Your love comfort me Let Your protecting presence calm my fears Let Your wisdom and intent Be the reason to dry my tears
For no matter what may come my way This one truth I will hold on to You are orchestrating it all I will simply rest and trust in You
I trust Your hand to guide my steps I trust Your Word to comfort and correct me I trust that You will only do what is best I trust the sunshine once again to see
So let the stormy winds blow on I am safe within Your care Let the lightening cast its light, the thunde…

The Heart

“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.” Proverbs 28:26. The subject of the human heart is very broad. It is common to hear the saying, ‘Follow your heart”. Many of us have also heard, ‘Well, how do you feel about that in your heart of hearts?’ When someone has made a difference in our lives, we say they ‘touched our hearts’ with their kindness or generosity. When we lose someone dear to us, or experience broken friendships we say we have ‘heartache’. When we miss someone that we are close to whether separated by time or miles, our ‘heart feels empty’ or there is a longing to be with that person. For sure, the human heart is full of emotion. When our hearts are heavy, we feel sad and overwhelmed. When our heart feels light, we experience joy or mirth. When our heart grows calloused or lethargic, we experience insensitivity to others around us. There are so many words that we could use to describe the different emotions that our h…

Teach Me To Be Still

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10 (KJV)"Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord." Psalm 4:4-5
Sometimes the job He asks of me Is something I don’t like Sometimes the way is rough and long And the road an uphill hike
It is these times that I must turn to Him For strength and determination It is these times I find in His word Some much needed motivation
When He asks of me to wait a while To stop and let Him work His will I find this is the hardest thing It is so hard for me to be still
I would much rather do something To help it all along I find that I would rather work But I know that would be wrong
To sit still and wait instead Takes tremendous self-control It takes great effort Of body, mind, and soul
No doubt, this is the lesson He intends for me to grasp For it c…

A Grateful Attitude (from a stay at home mom’s perspective)

As I stare at the miraculously growing pile of dirty laundry, I sigh inwardly. About that exact moment, I glance over at the four baskets of clean laundry already lined up next to the couch in the living room awaiting my eager hands to fold and put them away. The motivation and eagerness seems to have left me.
In my heart, I know that it is something God would have me do with a cheerful attitude out of service to Him, but the desire is just not there. I know that the clothes in those baskets are ones I washed the day before; I know that they will be dirty again tomorrow. The never-endingness of it all has really dampened my enthusiasm.
I quickly throw on another load of laundry, doing it all from memory, of course. I turn to make my way through the kitchen to the living room where sits my ever awaiting mounded monotony of small jeans, little boy’s shirts, small socks and underclothes. Out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of the sink full of dirty dishes.
I purposefully hav…

Entering Into His Presence Through Prayer

Psalm 5:3, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Prayer—the method by which we enter into the presence of the Holy and Righteous God. It is those brief moments when I step into His presence with my praise and petitions that I sense His true awesomeness and powerfulness. When I think about the fact that the God of the Universe has made a way for me to approach directly to His Throne to offer my feeble words of praise and request His help, it overwhelms me. I am so unworthy and such a small piece of His bigger picture, but yet, when I enter His presence I get His full attention directed towards me. He not only hears my prayers, but also involves Himself deeply in my life by answering them. As His adopted child, I am granted a privilege that I don’t deserve. This privilege of being able to approach His throne any time anywhere, either for needs or for praise, is one of the most comforting and bonding parts…

And a certain man….

John 5:1-9, 14 Setting for this story: The Pool of Bethesda, which had five porches. Surroundings in this story: Many other sick/lame people. Situation found in this story: This man had been sick for 38 years. He was in a place where healing was possible, but did not have the ability within himself. He was sick (vs. 5), alone and struggling (vs. 7). As I read this story, many things jump out at me from amongst the words of hope. There is significance in each detail. Let’s look deeper together. (It would help you tremendously if you were to follow along in your KJV Bible as you read this.) There was a multitude in this place, most of which were sick and in need of healing. However, Jesus did not go to all the others, He came to this certain man. Why did Jesus come to this one man and not to the rest? This man knew he had a problem, and he knew that he was unable to fix it himself. He admitted his own helplessness. God can’t work in our lives if we are too proud to admit that we need God.…

Lamentations 3:22-23King James Version (KJV) "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness."So, you are going through a dark time. You have wondered why. You have questioned how long it will last. You tried to place the blame on someone or something to try to find some relief. You may have even blamed God for the situation. Nothing you do seems to work. You have reached your wits end. You turn to see if there is anyone with you. You find you are all alone; or so it seems. You feel lonely, discouraged, tired, fed up, and ready to quit. You feel like your prayers are not even reaching past the ceiling. You feel like your life could not get any worse. You are unhappy, filled with regret and cannot see anything good. You are at the bottom; your life's lowest point. Where will you look for help? You can't look down. You are as far down as you can get! You can't look around you; life is…

The song of my soul

The song of my soul
A song of praise
For all of His goodness
For all of His ways

For blessings innumerable
And grace that abounds
For love unending
I will make joyful sounds

He is a wonderful Savior
My Master and King
His will is fulfilling
Of Him I will sing

My God is so great
His name is above
Any and all others
Because of His love

I'd like to thank Him
Right here and right now
For all that He does
I know not why, nor how

But He loves me!

Jeremiah 9:12-14 King James Version (KJV) “12 Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through? 13 And the Lord saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; 14 But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:” Jeremiah 9:23-24 King James Version (KJV) “23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 King James Version (KJV) “Casting down imagi…

A Greater Love? There is None!

I wrote this a young teen. So please forgive any immaturity. I shared it because it was a blessing to me to read it once again and remember how much He really does love me.
A greater love cannot be found To compare to that of Jesus For He suffered Calvary never turning around So that from sin He could free us
A greater love cannot exist To compare to that of Jesus For when sin in the heart clouds us as a mist He convicts our heart and shows us
A greater love? There is none! For Jesus is the only One Who loves us all even when Our hearts are very full of sin And gives us chances to get right So we can dwell in His true light.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13.

Father, what is home? I know You have prepared a place just for me. What does it look like? Oh, how I long to see. Child, home is Heaven. A place where you will never grow old. Where the gates are pearl and the street pure gold.
Father, where is home? I wonder how much longer I’ll sojourn. I would like to go home. Oh, how my heart yearns. Child, it is far away, but I will take you there some day Just be patient and walk the narrow way.
Father, who will be home? I hope I will see you first of all. I would also like to see the great preachers of old like Peter and Paul. Child, there will be a lot of people there, but not all I’m sad to say; Only those who allowed the Blood to wash their sins away.
Father, what is that bright place up ahead just barely in sight! Could that be the Land where the Lamb is the Light? Child, you’re almost there now grab hold of my hand. We must cross the river of death to enter that great Land.
Father, is this home? The gates of pearl are beautiful. I would …

I found this the other day while digging through some old notes. I wrote this when I was 11 years old. (I know because I wrote my age on the original. My memory would have failed me otherwiseJ) Unless we have faith as a little child….
As a lamp Thy word is to me On this lonely walk of life And when the path grows dark Your word is my light
Your word is deep in my heart So when I begin to sin Your word comes back to me And I feel guilt from within
For Your word is powerful And quick as you are too And sharper than any thing Piercing the heart to turn to you
When I get away from Your word I begin to worry and fret And I look at everything And it all seems to look like a mess
All of a sudden, I remember A verse from Psalm 27 That reminds me that God Is my strength, my  salvation
Then I pray and ask the Lord To forgive me from my sin And He gives me back His sweet peace deep within
Psalm 119:11 King James Version (KJV) “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee…

He Loves Me

I don’t know what tomorrow holds I don’t know what today may unfold But I know whose hand holds me And even when my life is a mess And even when I don’t pass the test I know that I’m kept in His love
He loves me! He loves me! He died to set me free He knows me, yet He loves me He understands my heart’s desire My deepest thought and darkest hour He holds me in His hand He has me in His heart He keeps me by His love He loves me
When life has gotten me down And I feel it’s hard to go on I draw strength in the fact that He understands For when I’m strong and when I’m weak In the valley or on the mountain peak He loves me enough to stay by my side
He loves me! He loves me! He promises never to leave He knows that I fail, yet He wants me to prevail He understands my need and provides In Him I safely confide He is faithfully there Every time that I call He really does care He loves me
